Supplementing Dr.
Goertzel's AI expertise is a large team of AI researchers and
developers, including bright young minds as well as some serious
experience. Leaders on the AI side of WebMind Inc. include:
Pei Wang, Director of Research
Dr. Wang brings to us 15
years of experience in AI research, most of it focused on his
Non-Axiomatic Reasoning System and associated practical and
philosophical issues. He received his PhD under Douglas Hofstadter
in the Indiana University Cognitive Science Program. Before joining
Webmind he implemented AI systems for many different corporations,
including Brightware and the Vanguard Group.
Jeff Pressing, Director of Financial AI
Since entering
CalTech at the age of 15, Dr. Pressing has had a diverse and
impressive research career spanning many areas including chemistry,
physics, music, psychology, nonlinear dynamics and financial
analysis. His particular areas of expertise include complex
dynamical systems, particularly as applied to neural and behavioral
systems; trading systems; nonlinear time series prediction;
cognitive psychology; motor behavior and skill; psychology of music
and auditory perception; economic psychology and the theory of
decision making. Immediately prior to joining Webmind, Dr. Pressing
was on the Psychology faculty at the University of Melbourne, and
trading on the Australian financial markets using
nonlinear-dynamics-based trading systems of his own invention.
John Cleary, Senior AI Scientist
A world authority in
the area of machine learning, John has a long career spanning both
academia and industry. In the 1980's he held faculty positions at
Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand) and University of
Calgary, and then in 1989 co-founded the company Jade Simulations,
of which he served as Chief Scientist until 1993, at which point he
returned to New Zealand to the Computer Science Department at
Waikato University. John and his colleague and close collaborator
Ian Witten have built the Waikato CS Department into one of the
leading, perhaps the leading, machine learning programs in the
world. Text Compression, by Bell, Cleary and Witten, is the classic
book on text compression, used throughout the world. John is expert
in many areas of computer science, including machine learning,
information theory, parallel and distributed systems, loss less text
compression, and logic programming (including extensions such as
temporal logic and logical arithmetic), and is the inventor of the
programming language Starlog.
